FLASHBACK CHILE: ART, CULTURE AND IDENTITY ´90-2000

This course offers an interdisciplinary exploration of the role that art and culture played in shaping Chilean identity during the 1990s and the early 2000s—a period defined by political transition and the return to democracy. It examines artistic and cultural expressions that arose in response to the social challenges of the time, emphasizing their contribution to constructing societal identity and values in Chile.

Through the analysis of works of art, literature, music, cinema, and cultural events, the course invites reflection from a historical perspective on the tensions between modernity and tradition, as well as the international influences that shaped cultural production in the global context of the post-Cold War era.

This course not only equips students with tools to analyze the cultural impact of this period but also fosters a deeper understanding of the diversity and complexity of Chilean identity amidst political and social transformation. It contributes to the Humanities Track and supports the development of the following UDD Generic Competencies: Global Vision and Critical Thinking.
